Drama

Drama is taught for one lesson a week to all pupils in years 8 and 9 in rotation with music. We are fortunate to have two dedicated studio spaces at our disposal. During this time basic drama skills are covered along with modules in working from playtext, melodrama, Darkwood Manor and Faustus. Drama is a popular and highly successful subject at KS4 where we follow the OCR syllabus 1916.

Last year almost 90% of our students earned themselves a grade between A* and C which a great testament to their imagination, creativity and hard work. The final grade is awarded from a mixture of 60% practical coursework with supporting evidence and 40% practical performance with supporting portfolio.

Many of our students move effortlessly into drama based sixth form A level courses with both Theatre Studies and Performance studies being currently taught. As well as drama we look at dance and music and also the technical side of theatre.

These students form the core of our annual production work being joined by students from across the college with a wide range of supporting skills in acting, marketing and stage management. Students from all year groups are encouraged to take part in the annual production and there are regular opportunities to showcase their skills in talent shows, assemblies, open evenings and lunchtimes.
