English (GCSE)
The English GCSE qualification is made up of 40% coursework and 60% examination. The coursework consists of five written and three spoken assignments.
The breadth of work involved in this course allows students to develop as listeners, readers, talkers and writers. This is intended to follow on from work done at KS3 (Years 7-9), as the main areas of study continue to be those of the National Curriculum: speaking and listening, reading and writing.
All students will study some pre-twentieth century literature in addition to a work by Shakespeare. The majority of students will also be entered for English Literature GCSE.
